Friends of Scandia Parks & Trails
Founded in 2008, this volunteer group is dedicated to protecting and enhancing parks, trails and natural areas in Scandia, Minnesota.

A group of people passionate about protecting natural areas and getting more public trails in the City of Scandia.
What we do:
Trail advocacy
We promote bike trails, and secured grant funding to extend the Gateway State Trail into Scandia. Download the Scandia bike trail map!
Prairie restoration
We obtained grants and worked to restore five acres of prairie at Liten Park, near Hay Lake.
Pollinator surveys
We hold before-and-after pollinator surveys on restored prairie so we can measure our success.
Forest enhancement
We hold tree-planting events to support existing and create new local forests.
Native plant giveaway
We hold spring plant giveaways, providing free native pollinator shrubs and trees.
Invasive species control
We hold volunteer events to remove invasive woody plants and broadcast prairie forb seeds.
Local policy support for natural resources
We worked with City staff to adjust ditch and roadside mowing policies.
Educational programs
We host public events with guest speakers such as Jeff Forester and Ann Bancroft.
Bird and plant hikes
Other public events include guided birding walks and other nature walks in the area.
